This Business Simulation game takes a team of participants back to the times of ancient Egypt. The team needs to execute a project in order to build the famous Pyramid of Cheops. During this one day session the team will be confronted with many challenges faced by the ancient Egyptians; Nile flooding, wars, the changing desires of the Pharaoh. The team's objective is to fulfill their project task within time, scope, budget and quality, encompassing all key areas of Project Management.
SOLUTIONS
Workshop participants will enact the roles of a project management organization. The assignment is to build the famous Pyramid of Cheops. The Project manager will receive the project charter during a meeting with the project board. The project manager will then initiate a project start-up and inform the team of their assigned tasks. Project results will have to be on time, within budget and meeting the quality demands of the Pharaoh.
The workshop consists of several rounds. In each round the team undergoes the following steps: Designing or improving their Project Management approach & process, applying their process, reflecting, and reporting. During the workshop the team will encounter all relevant project management issues such as how to work with work packages, how to control a project, how to communicate within the project team and towards the Project Steering Committee and Customer, how a Project Committee needs to control a project and how to deal with risks and scope changes.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this action-learning experience, participants will:
- Gain understanding and skills of how a project management method can improve the results of projects.
- Gain understanding and skills of the project management roles, tasks, responsibilities and authorities.
- Gain understanding and skills of how to design, implement, analyze, audit, and improve processes aimed at improving project results.
- Learn how to co-operate and how to improve working processes by designing and implementing as a team.
- Learn the importance of leadership, accountability, responsibility and ownership within projects to ensure results are achieved.
- Learn how to control projects using quality, scope, budget and time as control mechanisms.
- Finish the simulation with a list of improvement needs relating to their own project/working environment.
