  • How do you manage project in a high-risk environment?
  • Do you know how to manage project risks and changes?
  • How do you prioritize risks?
  • How project scope and project risk management are related?
  • What is the key to risk management?

One of the key reasons many projects are over time, budget or fail to deliver the right results is because of poor risk management. Failing to adequately manage project risks can cause lost revenue, poor market image and impact business continuity. The Ultimate Route TM is a live simulation. It challenges participants to apply and learn project management and risk management concepts and reinforces the human dynamics of teams. Participants learn how to drive project performance in quickly changing conditions.

Making effective change, risk, and resource management decisions in organizations requires input and experience from multiple people. To be successful, participating teams must understand such management concepts as: change, risk and scope. Participants will be required to demonstrate soft skills in order to interact effectively with colleagues and the customer within a dynamic and high-risk business environment.

SOLUTIONS

The Simulation comprises of 3 phases. During the Simulation participants have to construct a highway between two points, while proactively managing project, resources, scope, and risks. Phase one is devoted to project scope management. Phases 2 and 3 are devoted to project risk, change, and communication management. The task for the team(s) is to prioritize the risks, flag the most critical ones and select appropriate counter measures.

There are 5 "reflection breaks" during the Simulation, which are targeted at the team project status review, identifying lessons learned and deciding on improvements that need to be carried out. Following each break the Simulation complexity increases offering new learning opportunities. These breaks provide the participants with the chance to analyze their experience and improve their risk management skills to achieve the project goal.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Following completion of the Simulation all participants will expand their abilities in the following areas:

  • Recognition and application of the key processes of project Risk Management.
  • Understanding of key risk management strategies and their application in specific project situations
  • Importance of negotiation and communication skills required to manage risks effectively
  • Analyze the risk management system they built. At the end of the Simulation, participants are able to come up with an improvement action list for their own company' risk management.
  • Understand the Relationship between project scope and risk as well as change management and impact on project success.
  • Benefits of effective risk management for achieving the overall project goal and securing project success.
